I Broke My Rhythm

I broke my rhythm
I’m sore
Around my heart,
Can’t get started again.

I ran into a wall
Of obligations and demands
My heart stopped for a moment,
Skipped a beat,
Went into arrhythmia,
Tachycardia,
Changed from adagio
To presto
Very quickly
Jerked me along
Wakened me abruptly

My head got light
Temples pounded

Rhythm broken
In small pieces
Hard to pick up

Where can I take
My rhythm
To get the timing re-set
Get back in step
With me
Find the inner “click”?

Broken rhythm is not usually fatal,
If caught in time.

Now
Stop
Check the music
Begin again
a-one, a-two
a-one, two, three, four…
Step, hitch, step, step.
Back in time
Pulsing in my ears
Rising from my heart
Rhythm
Music
Life.
Aaaah!
